Satellite Image of the Week 2022 #49

This week, I chose a fire weather image over Hawaii.

In this image, you can see a few bright pixels near the center of the Big Island in Hawaii. This is Mauna Loa, which is currently erupting and causing a large lava flow. Because this sensor detects heat (which is good for locating wildfires in dense forests), it can also detect the heat of the lava.

Thank you for reading my post.
