Yesterday was not spectacular, either. We had a Slight Risk and a 2% Tornado Threat Ring in southeastern Wyoming and northeastern Colorado. By starting the day in Sidney, NE, this was an easy jog west for us.
Our first cell popped at around 12:30 local time to our north, when we were just east of Cheyenne. We drove back to Cheyenne, then headed north on US-85.
We made a large loop to Chugwater and watched this storm die, as a boundary passed, causing the storm to become outflow dominant.
However, a few minutes later, storms began to fire to our south, not too far from Denver. We hopped on I-25 and headed south, detouring through rural CO to avoid the Denver traffic.
However, soon after we arrived, this storm also died, this time due to heavy capping.
Our final route is shown below:
Overall, it was a busted day. Worse than that, the pattern is total garbage for at least the next EIGHT DAYS. We may be calling the chase for a while, perhaps the whole season. 2018 started with me trying to pour gas into my car in the -9 F Illinois weather, and it hasn’t become less sucky yet.
Thank you for reading my post.
