I have added a page dedicated to my 2012 Storm Chase.
2012 was a good year for storm chasing. I took several trips out to the Great Plains based on my work schedule. I saw one nighttime tornado, and one storm that did everything but produce a tornado. There were several other great storms during this trip. I ran into my old buddies from Virginia Tech and chased with them for a day or two as well.
I also was in Woodward, OK when it was struck by an EF-3 tornado. I was in a hotel (at night), and the tornado moved through town very quickly, unfortunately killing six people. It missed my hotel, but was an emotionally draining experience for me as well. Some said I should quit storm chasing, or that “this was what I wanted,” but of course, this was all nonsense. The weather is what it is, regardless of whether I’m there or not. I was in a position to assist, though they had enough volunteers, and so I was turned away.
Overall, it was a good season for me, chasing across several states and with several different teams (alone, with my family, and with Virginia Tech).
I hope you enjoy the archive!
