I was updating some other storm chase pages on there and ran across the fact that I had never posted about 6/22/20, our final storm chase day of the 2020 season.
We started the day in Amarillo, TX, and met up with a few friends from the StormCruzzer crew for a picnic lunch outside of the hotel.
There was a severe threat for the day that covered eastern New Mexico and the Texas Panhandle, but, as I recall, it was mostly a wind threat as storms fell apart. We decided to punt and head back home.
Near the NM/TX border, a few storms started to fire. This was taken near San Jon, NM.
We decided to chase these storms until they went linear, which we knew would be quick. Our journey took us back northeast at Tucumcari, NM, and we ended up getting under one of the updraft bases.

We ducked southwest out of Logan, NM, for a few minutes to let the storm pass a bit, but then headed southeast behind the storm. I thought it was quite scenic!
We hid under an overhang for a few minutes in San Jon, NM, again, just in case there was any large hail. There wasn’t, so we went inside and had some really good Indian food- surprisingly good, considering it was a truck stop in the middle of nowhere. (6/5/21: we eat there now every time we pass through the area).
Overall, it was only a slight, but scenic, detour on our way home. Here is our route, courtesy of Google Maps:
