This week’s image was taken earlier today over the center of the United States today.
This week’s image is of a mid-latitude cyclone crossing northeast through the middle of the country. If you follow the clouds, you can find the center of low pressure in the Bootheel region of Missouri. You can also see the cold front looping up through Cairo, IL, in the very point of the Illinois, then cutting east of Memphis and into Mississippi. The warm front is a little hard to see on the satellite imagery alone.
Mid-latitude cyclones are a normal part of springtime weather; storm chasers typically hang out in the warm sector between the warm front and the cold front.
