1/10/20: Moderate Risk Follow Up

I meant to follow up on the SPC Moderate Risk that occurred back on 1/10/20.  According to the Storm Prediction Center (SPC), there were 18 tornadoes across MO, OK, AR, TX, and LA.  Unfortunately, there were three reported fatalities and five injuries.

The SPC Storms Reports graphic is shown below:

Most of these tornadoes occurred after dark, and all were associated with the nasty squall line.  Storms fired quickly and were embedded in heavy rain, low clouds and awful chase terrain.

I think I was wise to not chase these storms.  I saw a few videos of the storms, but very few visible tornadoes.  Lots of grainy (low light), turbulent skies, but no well-defined tornadoes on the videos I saw.  That’s about how this system went; nearly-impossible-to-see, damaging tornadoes.

Thank you for reading my post.
