Weather Video of the Week: 2019 #41

This video shows the 2004 Socorro Hail Storm.

Yesterday marked the 15 year anniversary of the Socorro Hail Storm.  Large hail fell for nearly several minutes, destroying cars, skylights and tile rooftops across the New Mexico Tech campus.

I had recently applied to NMT for graduate school, and figured they would not be recovered in time for me to do graduate work there.  I guess that all worked out; I finished my MS degree there, and have been teaching there since 2008.  Many of the vehicles still bear the damage from the storm, though most of the rooftops have been repaired.  My department pickup still looks like a golf ball.

Thank you for reading my post.
