2006 Storm Chase Update

I am cleaning up boxes and file cabinets of old papers in my house. I ran across some storm chase notes from previous chases. I didn’t quite want to throw them away without telling their story.

The 2006 Storm Chase page has been updated with block quotes from my notes. Some of it is repeated (as I used these to type the blog entries later), and some of it is data from a Kestrel weather monitor.

It is interesting to think about these notes. Back then, I would go for weeks storm chasing, sometimes without a laptop or cell phone. I got my first laptop in 2004 and my first cell phone in 2005. I would take photos and notes and post them when I returned to Virginia; rarely on the road. There was barely social media back then, and, if I was lucky, I would check into AOL Instant Messenger from a hotel lobby and let a few friends and family members know where I was.

A lot of these notes include messages for next chase: what to change on the equipment, how to fix radio problems, etc.

I have notes from other years as well, and will post them from time to time. Maybe I’ll post them until I get my weather station running again!

Thank you for reading my post.
