Today was a bit of a disappointing day in terms of storm chasing. For all the hoopla, it was a hard chase day.
We started out by simply trying to avoid the thick haze. There was nowhere to avoid it, but we kept driving anyhow. We ended up north of Paducah, TX, and saw some storm features poking out from the haze.
We saw two tornadoes. None of my pictures came out, as they were so low contrast. For whatever reason, I didn’t take any with my phone, and I have some grainy photos trapped on my regular camera, which now does not want to connect to my computer. Oh well, they weren’t worth it anyhow.
We followed this storm into Oklahoma, but ended up way behind it. There was a chaser-convergence-related accident and traffic jam, so we ended up bailing and going to Childress for the night. There was mammatus at sunset.
We ended the day at the Super 8 in Childress, and then chatted with a bunch of other storm chasers at the Arby’s/Pilot across the street.
