Yesterday, we left Austin, TX, in a light drizzle. We decided to skip the threat in southern Texas and head northwest.
For the most part, this was a travel day. We had a late breakfast or early lunch in Lampasas, TX, at a park. Some of us were afraid of duck attacks…
We made our way slowly and lazily northwest. We did hit some developing storms in west Texas, near Lubbock.
We hung out at a gas station for a bit while we assessed the hail threat. We were in the occasional pea-sized hail, but were shielded by the gas station overhang. As soon as the precipitation lightened, we left, bound for Amarillo for the night.
The cells kept forming, then congealing into an outflow-dominant mess. We headed north towards Amarillo, with a few quick stops along the way.
We saw a double rainbow just north of Lubbock as well.
We ended the night in Amarillo, TX, at the Baymont Inn.
