2/23/19: Moderate Risk Follow Up

I meant to post yesterday about the Moderate Risk on Saturday. As expected, there were numerous tornadoes in Mississippi and Alabama. At least one of these tornadoes was responsible for a fatality and 11 injuries. Columbus, MS, was hit hard. The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) Storm Report graphic is shown below:

My predictions held well. One tornado was southwest of Artesia, MS, only 12 miles from my target of Starkville. Columbus was about 40 miles away. I’ve passed through both of these towns before.

Storms did go linear quickly, and these tornadoes were from supercells embedded in a strong squall line.  Judging by the video coming from other storm chasers, this would have been a difficult storm chase.

Thank you for reading my post.
