Central New Mexico Weather: 2/5/18

Yesterday was sunny, warm and still.  I went for a five mile run, and the worked in my garden, pruning my grapes and trees.

This morning has been clear, cool, and still.

The NWS in Albuquerque, NM, forecasts (for Rio Rancho, NM) a  sunny day, with a high temperature of 67 F.  The winds will be from the northwest at 5-10 mph.  This evening will be mostly clear, with a low temperature of 34 F.  The winds will be from the northwest at 5 mph, becoming south after midnight.

The NWS in Albuquerque, NM, forecasts (for Socorro, NM) a sunny day, with a high temperature of 70 F.  The winds will be from the northeast at 5 mph. This evening will be mostly clear, with a low temperature of 34 F.  The winds will be from the west at 5 mph.

The NWS in Albuquerque, NM, forecasts (for Magdalena, NM) a sunny day, with a high temperature of 65 F.  The winds will be from the west at 10 mph.  This evening will be mostly clear, with a low temperature of 33 F.  The winds will be from the west at 10 mph.

The visible satellite image is unavailable at this time.

The infrared satellite image shows a few light clouds over the northeastern corner of the state this morning.

The enhanced low-level water vapor satellite imagery shows that there is also some additional cloud moisture scattered over the northern half of the state.

The 12Z upper air sounding from Albuquerque shows that there is variable moisture, with no saturated layers.  There was 0.24 inches of precipitable water present in the column.  There was no Convective Available Potential Energy (CAPE) and no Convective Inhibition (CINH).  The Lifted Condensation Level (LCL) was 1642 m.  There was a large thermal inversion above the surface, and the 0-3 km average lapse rate was 4.4 C/km.

The hodograph shows that there was 40 kts low-level shear (due mostly to directional changes) and 76 kts deep-layer shear (due mostly to speed changes).

The surface observations (from the SPC Mesoscale Analysis Map) show cool temperatures and low humidity (based on the surface dewpoint depressions).  The skies are clear (according to the sensors), with a light, variable wind.

The surface pressure chart shows no strong pressure systems or gradients over the state this morning.  The pressure is a little lower in the east.  The RAP shows that no strong pressure systems or gradients are expected to develop for at least the next six hours.

The HRRR simulated reflectivity shows very little precipitation is expected today.  This image has been excluded from today’s post.

The HRRR has the high temperatures for Rio Rancho reaching into the upper-60’s around 23 Z.  It is going to be another very pleasant day.

The HRRR shows a few strong mountain wind gusts by 16 Z.  However, the central part of the state and, even the plains are not anticipated to become very windy.

The HRRR shows that there will be minimal cloud cover.  This image has been excluded from today’s post.

Today will be sunny, warm and still.  It will be like yesterday, and spoil us with spring weather, yet again.
