Bill Paxton, lead actor in Twister, died today.
I remember being 14 or so when that movie came out on the big screen, with Van Halen on the sound track. What more could I ask for?
I knew enough meteorology to know that the actor said things that didn’t make sense, but the totally awesome special effects made up for the minor scientific flaws.
I think most veteran storm chasers today will roll their eyes at many beginner storm chasers who use this movie as their biggest meteorological reference. We will complain about the “yahoos” that mimic scenes from the movie, driving crazy or cheering wildly when a tornado appears.
However, in the back of all of our minds, we picture ourselves as Bill Paxton from time to time.
Thanks for the memories, RIP.
