Yesterday, there was some rain in Albuquerque, and they even lost power due to the storms. I was in Albuquerque, so I’m not 100% sure how Rio Rancho was affected.
In Rio Rancho this morning, the weather is mild, humid, partly cloudy and still. The clouds that linger are left over cirrus from yesterday’s showers and storms. The backyard weather station says the temperature is 61.0 F, the relative humidity is 84%, the relative pressure is 30.23 in Hg and steady, and the winds are still.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Albuquerque forecasts a mostly sunny day today, with a high temperature of 91 F and a 20% chance of precipitation. Winds will be from the north at 5-10 mph, shifting southwest by the afternoon. This evening will be partly cloudy, with a low temperature of 65 F and a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Winds will be from the west at 5-10 mph. The NWS has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook concerning thunderstorms in the southwestern corner of the state today. These storms may produce gusty winds, heavy downpours and flash flooding. Skywarn Spotters are encouraged to report severe weather to the NWS.

The water vapor satellite imagery shows deep moisture over the state, though there is some drying that is occurring in the northwestern corner, ahead of the trough.

The surface observations (from the SPC Mesoscale Analysis Map) show mild temperatures, high dewpoints, clear skies, and very little wind over the state today. There are no major boundaries present so far this morning.
The surface pressure map shows no strong pressure gradients over the state so far this morning. The RAP shows that none are expected to develop in the next six hours.
Synoptically speaking, the 300 mb NAM chart (from Unisys) shows another day of limited flow aloft, though a trough is approaching from the west.
The 500 mb NAM chart shows no significant vorticity advection over the state today. This chart has been excluded from today’s post.
The 700 mb NAM chart shows only a tiny, weak pocket of rising air today.
The 850 mb NAM chart shows no significant thermal advection over the state today. This chart has been excluded from today’s post.
The Precipitation chart shows that much of the state has a chance of rainfall by this evening.
Overall, I expect a mostly dry day today, with some chance of storms. The lack of rising air at 700 mb indicates that coverage of showers and thunderstorms will be limited, as compared to any day this previous week.
