Soon after I moved to New Mexico, there was a storm near my apartment in Socorro, NM. I decided to go on a mini-chase, even though none of the cells were severe.
It started with a cumulus field:
I got to see the precipitation core backlit by the sun on several positions.
In this photo, you can see the virga- the rain is evaporating before it hits the ground.
I had the opportunity to take a handful of lightning photos while this storm headed south.
