On the morning (11:33 am CDT) of 4-14-12, it sure didn’t look like severe thunderstorm weather in Woodward, OK. Overcast and cool. It was humid and breezy, however…
Cells went up quickly, however. This was taken heading west on US-60, as a cell approaches from the southwest as 3:40pm CDT.
Very large, fast moving storm near Vici, OK at 4:22pm CDT
At 5:01pm, there was a wall cloud developing near Fargo, OK.
Running from this cell, 5:25pm CDT, I found myself cornered in Woodward. I avoided the large hail as best I could, positioning myself behind a McDonald’s. The McDonald’s also had wi-fi, so I was checking the radar. Note the white streaks of hail in this photo.
After this cell passed, I went chasing after a cell approaching from the southwest. At 6:27pm CDT, I was just south of Sharon, OK, right after the ping-pong ball sized hail had struck. Note the white lumps in the grass.
After this cell had passed, it looked like clear skies to the west. This was cruising down Oklahoma Blvd in Woodward, OK at 7:21pm CDT. Note the sunny skies, normally signifying the end of the chase day…
