Today was a travel day for me. I had a ton of loose ends I needed to tie up at work before the end of the semester.
In Goodland, KS, it was cold and drizzling. I didn’t figure I would miss much action, even with a tornado watch to my northeast. I headed down KS-27 from Goodland until I reached Johnson City, KS and the junction with US-160. This was old chase territory from last year’s chase, as we caught two tornadoes southwest of Manter, KS.
I took US-160 to I-25 after getting lost in the construction around Trinidad, CO. From there, I went to Albuquerque for the Fountainhead Reading Group, and then back to Socorro.
On the horizon: The weather over the next week looks pretty stable, so I’ll do some other things until it looks like severe weather will form again. Way down the road, the 23rd and 24th might end up being good days to chase in Oklahoma. OU’s lab shows CAPE approaching 6000 J/kg, and some vorticity. LCL heights are predicted to be pretty low, too. Only time will tell, but I’m watching the situation in Oklahoma closely and may head out there again.
